Anxiety : The Mental Michael Myers

Halloween, it’s so scary, horrifying even. Do you know somebody hella scary, but loves to be scared, well that’s me(kinda), I will run in a heartbeat, don‘t get me f*cked up now, but I’m more of a “BOO” 👻 — movie scared not scared to walk around and roam freely about the land.

It’s “Halloween”! Aye, f*ck Halloween and f*ck all these costumes too. It’s too much trying to decide, so it’s extra questions. When does it get dark? What candy do kids like? What should I pick? A mask or costume? Because I want to scare the stew out the kids when I open the door so time and effort goes into this..see. Hella stress over a costume and candy to not even dress up at all.

It’s the extra worrying to end up doing nothing. All that, just to stay in the house, on top of that, not one trick-or-treater. Not one showed up. They stand me up. Now look what they made me do, you know I had to eat all that candy,I had to. It’s the back and forth, but with myself. Sheer anxiety, just the thought of Halloween is f*cking with me….see. F*ck it, since you may not understand how anxiety works, let me try to explain anxiety as Michael Myers for Halloween.

Anxiety Speaking : “I’m like Michael Myers from Halloweenbut instead of stalking people, I stalk your thoughts always lurking, never far away. I’m always there on your ass—silently in the background, wearing my creepy mask of worry and I love to pop up at random times, just like how I run after people in every movie just to keep things interesting. I am trying to unalive you, but you want let me.

Maybe you’re stressed about something simple like 'Did I lock the door?' —and I take that and run with it. You think you're safe, maybe having a good time at a party or trying to sleep, and STAB 🔪 there I am, standing ominously in the doorway of your mind. You might not see it at first, but I’m here, that’s me, creeping slowly and silently through your mind. Just like Michael, anxiety doesn’t rush; it’s patient. No matter how much you try to avoid me, I’ll be there... without fail.

You can try to run, distract yourself, or lock it out, but it somehow finds a way back in. It shows up unexpectedly, even when you think you’ve escaped it, like a shadow in the corner of your thoughts. It's relentless, feeding on your fears and uncertainties, turning everyday worries into something much more menacing . Slow and steady, never really disappearing. But don’t worry, I won’t f*ck you up ... too much. Just f*ck with your head for a while stab that a$$ up a bit.”

What You Need To Know

Anxiety : Halloween

Halloween and Halloween parties can be a lot of fun, but if you're hosting, it’s normal to feel some anxiety, especially with all the planning and preparation involved. Here are some signs of Halloween party anxiety that you might experience:

Signs of Halloween Party Anxiety:

  1. Overwhelm from Planning:

    • Feeling stressed about organizing every little detail—from decorations and food to invitations and activities. You may feel like there's too much to do and not enough time.

    • Signs: Constantly thinking about your to-do list, feeling stuck or indecisive about decisions (like themes, music, or activities), or procrastinating.

  2. Worrying About Guest Experience:

    • Anxiety over whether your guests will have a good time. You might worry about whether everyone will show up, if they’ll like the party theme, costumes, or even if the food and music will be enjoyable.

    • Signs: Fear of people not RSVPing or canceling last minute, obsessing over making the party “perfect,” or comparing your party to others:

  3. Social Pressure and Interactions:

    • If you're someone who feels anxious in social settings, hosting can amplify that. You might worry about managing conversations, making sure guests are entertained, or handling potential awkward situations.

    • Signs: Nervousness about interacting with many people, fear of awkward silences, or uncertainty about how to balance being the host and socializing.

  4. Perfectionism:

    • Putting pressure on yourself to make everything flawless—whether it's the decor, food, or even your own costume. This can lead to anxiety about things not going exactly according to plan.

    • Signs: Constantly rethinking or tweaking party details, feeling like the smallest mistake will ruin the party, or experiencing a sense of dread when things don’t go as expected.

  5. Fear of Judgement:

    • Worrying that your party or costume will be judged negatively by others, whether it's the level of effort you put into the decorations, the theme, or how you look in your costume.

    • Signs: Feeling self-conscious about the party’s appearance, spending excessive time trying to impress others, or imagining worst-case scenarios where the party is seen as a failure.

  6. Last-Minute Panic:

    • Anxiety that peaks as the event draws near. This can manifest as worrying that you’re running out of time to prepare or that something important will be forgotten or go wrong.

    • Signs: Rushing to complete tasks, staying up late to finish preparations, second-guessing decisions, or feeling generally overwhelmed in the days leading up to the party.

How To Ease Halloween Party Anxiety:

  1. Create a Realistic Plan:

    • Break down tasks into manageable chunks and set realistic deadlines. This helps you avoid last-minute panic and gives you a sense of accomplishment as you complete each step.

  2. Prioritize the Essentials:

    • Focus on the key elements—food, music, and decorations. Don’t stress over every small detail; most guests are there for a good time, not perfection.

  3. Delegate Tasks:

    • If possible, share responsibilities with a friend or family member. Let someone else handle certain aspects like music, setup, or drinks so that you don’t have to do everything.

  4. Embrace Imperfection:

    • Remind yourself that it’s okay if things don’t go perfectly. Halloween is about fun, not perfection, so allow yourself to relax and enjoy the process.

  5. Plan for Self-Care:

    • Make sure to take time to breathe and relax, even on the day of the party. Don’t let yourself get so consumed by preparations that you’re exhausted by the time the party starts.

  6. Set a Time for the Party to End:

    • You don’t need to entertain endlessly. Setting an end time helps manage your energy and expectations, so you aren’t overwhelmed by having guests linger too long.
