ABOUT ADD/ADHD

It is very important to tap the links in this article for self-help. This week we are talking about the thing living rent free in your head that nobody ever properly diagnosed. Is it anxiety, or is it Adult ADD? By the end of this you will know 4 things: what ADD is, the 3 dead giveaways, the real difference between anxiety and ADD, and exactly what to do about it. Be sure to learn more if you think you have Adult ADD/ADHD. If you ay this is article is too long, you for sure have that (ADD/ADHD) shit bad. Just kidding. Let’s dive in.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

What Is Adult ADD/ADHD? Most people think ADD is a childhood condition. It's not. Millions of adults are walking around completely undiagnosed, managing symptoms they've been told are personality flaws, laziness, or anxiety their entire lives. Adult ADD is real, wildly underdiagnosed, and looks completely different in adults than it does in children.

What does ADD stand for? ADD stands for Attention Deficit Disorder. The full clinical name is now officially ADHD — Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

HOW MANY OF US HAVE IT?

How Many Adults Have It? Approximately 8 to 10 million adults in America have ADHD/ADD. Only about 20% are diagnosed. That means roughly 8 million American adults are walking around completely unaware that what they've been calling anxiety, laziness, or personality flaws has a name, and a solution.

Globally over 366 million adults live with ADHD worldwide.

ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDERS

ADD comes in three types: (Tap the blue links)

1. ADHD Inattentive Type - formerly called ADD

  • The daydreamer

  • No hyperactivity

  • Just scattered, unfocused, and lost in their own head

  • Most common in women and girls, and most commonly missed

2. ADHD Hyperactive - Impulsive Type

  • Can't sit still

  • Talks constantly

  • Acts before thinking

  • Most commonly diagnosed in boys and men

3. ADHD Combined Type

  • Both inattentive AND hyperactive

  • Most common overall diagnosis

THE BIG 3

3 Dead Giveaways You Have Adult ADD:

  • You start everything and finish nothing.

  • You lose your train of thought mid-sentence.

  • You can hyperfocus on something you love for 9 hours straight but cannot complete a boring 10-minute task to save your life.

Sound familiar? Eight million American adults have ADD and don't know it. They've spent their whole lives being called lazy, scattered, and too sensitive. It has a name. And it is not a flaw.

THE BIGGEST ONE

The Biggest Dead Giveaway. You can focus PERFECTLY on things that interest you, games, creative projects, conversations you love, but cannot for the life of you focus on a simple task that bores you. That selective focus is the signature of ADD. Lazy people don't hyperfocus for 9 hours straight. Your brain just needs the right fuel.

ANXIETY VS. ADHD

What Is The Difference? The two are alike but different. ADD and anxiety look identical on the surface, racing thoughts, restlessness, inability to focus, emotional overwhelm.

The difference: ADD thoughts are scattered and random like a TV stuck on channel surf. Anxiety thoughts are worried and future focused like a fire alarm that won't stop. Seventy percent of adults with ADD also have anxiety, because living with undiagnosed ADD your whole life creates anxiety. The ADD came first. The anxiety was the response.

THE CONFUSION

The Overlap That Confuses Everyone

Here's the kicker, 70% of adults with ADD also have anxiety. They are not the same condition but they frequently live together. ADD creates situations, missed deadlines, forgotten responsibilities, impulsive decisionS, that then CREATE anxiety. So the ADD comes first and the anxiety is the response to living with unmanaged ADD your entire life.

Many people get diagnosed with anxiety and treated for anxiety, when the root cause was ADD the whole time.

THE REMEDY

Natural remedies that actually help: exercise is the most powerful, 30 minutes of cardio mimics a low dose stimulant by spiking dopamine. Magnesium, zinc, and omega 3s directly reduce symptoms. Protein feeds focus. Cold showers spike norepinephrine naturally. And if symptoms are severe, talk to your doctor. Getting diagnosed isn't weakness. Finally understanding your brain is the most powerful thing you can do.

TRUTH IS

The FCKTHAT Truth

If you've spent your whole life being told you're scattered, lazy, too sensitive, a space cadet, or just anxious — and none of the anxiety treatments have fully worked — it might be time to ask a different question.

Not "why am I so anxious?"

But "what if my brain is just wired differently — and nobody ever told me?"

That question changes everything.
